VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS

When you arrive for SELF:

  • Please come to the Volunteer Registration desk. You will need to have your ID handy and any money that you still owe will need to be paid at this time. If you register later that Friday you may register at the regular registration and then proceed to the Information table on the inside to finish your volunteer registration.
  • When you register with the volunteer coordinator you will be given a packet including your name badge, a copy of your volunteer shift assignment and any other information you may need.
  • Registration opens at 10 am on Friday of SELF. You may register at any time before your first shift is scheduled during the weekend. If you are scheduled to work before registration opens your time will be credited to you.

Starting a Volunteer Shift:

  • 5 minutes before your volunteer shift is about to start, please find Alex at either the Volunteer Registration table or the Information Table. In the event that alex is not available please find the assistant who is manning the registration or information desk.
  • You will sign in for your shift and be marked off as Present. This is important – if you are not signed in, you will not get credit for that shift.
  • You will be given a brief run down of what you need to do for your shift, and where you need to be.

Ending a Volunteer Shift:

  • Find Alex at either the Volunteer Registration table or the Information Table and get signed off your shift. This will ensure you get the full shift credit.
  • If you are security, do not leave your assigned post until another security volunteer relieves you. Then you are allowed to find Alex and check out of your shift.

Dress Code:

  • Dress comfortably and with common sense. Make sure you are both street legal, and also wearing appropriate clothes for the general public and children to see you in if you think you will be working outside of the secure area reserved for SELF.

Behavior during a Shift:

  • When you are volunteering, you are part of the staff of SELF.
  • While it is important to have fun, please keep your mind on the job. This means work hard, enjoy yourself, and keep a look out for anything that could result in problems for SELF. Report any suspicious activity to any SELF Board member – with your first point of contact to be Alex or the board member you have been assigned to and your second being another board member.

In case of Emergencies:

  • Contact Alex if at all possible. Alex will be available by cell phone and/or radio at all time during the weekend.
  • In the event that alex cannot be located please contact another board member.
  • NIGHT TIME Security volunteers your First point of contact should be the Head of Security, Randy, with your second point on contact being alex.
  • DM Volunteers, your first point of contact will be the Head of Dungeon Management, Chris. Second point of contact will be Randy and/or Alex.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

Dress Code: In public places, you must be street legal and able to be seen by Moms and small children without causing a problem.

Play: This must be confined to the private areas or your room and not done in public areas.

Drugs: Never acceptable unless you have a prescription. If we determine they are being used against medical advice or you are unable to complete your shift, you will be asked to leave the shift or the event.

Alcohol: Use common sense. You are an adult and are expected to act like one. You will not be allowed to work your volunteer shift if you are overly inebriated.

Volunteer Shifts and the discounted registration from Volunteering:

  • If you are late, and you know in advance you will be late, call Alex to let me know.
  • If you do not show up, you will not receive credit and you will be required to pay the full weekend pass or you will be asked to leave the event.
  • If you show up and do not do the work required, you will be required to pay the full weekend pass or you will be asked to leave.
  • If you behave inappropriately, you will be asked to leave the event.
  • If for any reason your coordinator or another board member decides you are not capable of representing SELF in the manner that we see fit, you may be asked to leave the event.

Finally, we really appreciate our volunteers' willingness to help SELF be a memorable event and run smoothly. We could not produce SELF without the help and dedication of our volunteer staff. We hope you have an enjoyable time and that you come back for many years to enjoy SELF with us!
